Club History Established 2007

Ranch Rovers play in the Chesterfield Sunday League and were formed in the spring of 2007. The club is the realisation of a dream for Club Secretary Paul Dakin, who has had his heart set on running a Football team from the Spinning Wheel pub in North Wingfield for a long time. After initially registering his interest with the league way back in 2006, it took Paul a long while to get the club off the ground, but with the amount of work that has been put in it was maybe a wise decision not to enter the league in the previous season as we would have been severely unprepared. The fact that the club exists is not only down to Paul’s hard work and commitment, but also owes a lot to the players themselves, who bankrolled the club in its early stages in an effort to pay for the pitch and insurance before any sponsorship was forthcoming. That sponsorship was provided first by Claymore Contracts, who have now regrettably ceased trading, and later by Abbey Civil Engineering whose name adorns our first choice kit of Red & Black stripes (the AC Milan of the Sunday league….possibly). Ranch Rovers play on King George V Playing Fields, Dark Lane, North Wingfield.

In our first season we were, understandably, placed in the lowest division of the league, Division Nine. With a lot of our lads not having a great deal of experience when it came to organized football, the early teething stages where quite painful to say the least with a lot of results not going our way but we as a group had expected this and our strong character has shone through as we have improved immensely performance wise since our early season set backs and now just need to try to be a little bit more consistent in order to climb the table. The plan was always to see this season out and try to consolidate for an attempt at promotion next season when the players have got used to playing with each other and this remains the short term focus.
